Interested in Pursuing Dentistry as a Career?
Intern with Windham’s best dentist – Dr. Anne Filler.
In partnership with Salem and Windham High Schools, students interested in pursuing a career as a dental hygienist or dentist can intern at Dr. Filler’s dental office. A “Gold Circle School Partnership Award” recipient in 2008, Dr. Filler has helped Salem high school students achieve the best job-related experience when considering a dental related career. Her track record for students continuing on to a career in the field has been impressive. To date, she has had 4 young women pursue careers in dental hygiene. Students who have interned with her have been accepted to pre-dental programs in both Boston College and University of Connecticut. Currently 2 of her students have become dentists and one is currently in school.
Writes student intern Iris W., who recently visited Costa Rica and Nicaragua with a dental team of 15 students:
“I had an incredible experience in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Our dental education team was able to do several cleanings, fillings, and even a couple of extractions! I’m so glad I could help the less fortunate communities in these countries. It was a rewarding experience, and I really appreciate your support. It definitely influenced my decision to be a dentist.”
Chris F., who graduated from Salem High School in 2004 who now works in the dental field writes:
“During my junior year of high school, I volunteered at Dr. Filler’s office, and then during my senior year, Dr. Filler offered me an internship at her office. This was a really great experience. I have wanted to be a dentist for a long time and this allowed me to see what it was like to work in the profession every day. Dr. Filler was very supportive and took the time to explain exactly what she was doing with each patient. She also allowed me to interact with the patients and the rest of the staff. This experience only intensified my desire to become a dentist. I also learned that Dr. Filler is not only a great dentist but also a wonderful mentor.”

Julia worked as an intern in Dr. Fillers office and in oral surgeon's Dr. Greene's office in Nashua. She is now a dental student at MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston). This makes her the third intern from Dr. Filler's office to head to dental school.
I am an intern at Dr. Filler's dentist office. I decided to pursue this particular field because I have been interested in the dentistry field for a while. Because of that, I really wanted to see what the daily tasks and responsibilities would look like as a dentist, so I thought it would be a great idea to see that before I make any major decisions for my future career.
My favorite part of the internship is when I actually get to assist! I have assisted a couple times and it has been an amazing experience. Actually having that hands on experience and being up close with the patient has helped me learn so much about what a dentist does.
My internship has taught me so much about the field of dentistry. I have learned lots of new terminology, procedures, and also about sterilization of the instruments and this has definitely helped me decide that I would like to be a dentist in the future.
I have been a patient at Dr. Filler's office since I was very young. The wonderful patient experience over the years had helped strengthen my interest in pursuing dentistry as a career. During my junior year in high school, I had the opportunity to volunteer and shadow at Dr. Filler's office. The following year, her office offered me an assistant internship which was part of the Health Careers program at Salem High School. These experiences helped me confirm that I wanted a career in Dentistry.
With the help and encouragement of Dr. Filler and her staff, I was accepted at the University of Connecticut in their Combined Program in Dental Medicine. After I graduated in 2013 with my Bachelor of Science Degree, I started at University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. I am now in my 4th year of dental school, planning to graduate in May 2017 and pursue a career in General Dentistry. Throughout undergraduate and dental school, I was able to maintain and build my relationship with Dr. Filler and her staff. Their guidance and encouragement have aided in my success. Dr. Filler has been a wonderful role model.
